Notes:
Found on a vertebrate ecology class field trip. We walked past this area and saw nothing on this stretch of road. Only a few feet afterwards we stopped to look at a distant bird. Then we turned around and headed back to where we came from. While walking, I noticed this snake stretched out on the trail and ran over to grab it so that everyone could get to see it. It must have just come out onto the road the minute after we had passed this area. It was very well behaved and did not hiss at all. Everyone in the class got to hold it and gain an appreciation for this common, yet important reptile. The weather was windy and cold, but it was just starting to warm up and calm down when we found this guy.
