Unfortuntaly, this photo from my phone doesn't have the resolution to pick out the neonate Ribbonsnakes that were feeding in this puddle, but i counted a minimum of 5 simultaneously, and I suspect there were quite a few more.
This drying, hypoxic creek bottom was full of fish and tadpoles. When I rode up on my bicycle, there were at least 10 snakes visible including:
3 Nerodia rhombifera (subadults or small males)
5 Thamnophis proximus (YOY)
2 Thamnophis marcianus (YOY)
Some of the snakes took off into the grass when I stopped, but others continued fishing. You can see one of the Nerodia in this photo from my phone.
