Notes:
AOR technically (tongue flicking in 3rd picture), but this snake will most likely die in the near future. While its head was intact, the back half was completely flattened, likely including many of its vital organs. I moved it off the road, not really knowing what else to do, but in that time it was very alert and still able to move its front half normally. When I returned to it 45 minutes later, it was still alive and active to the same level as before. I covered it with a nearby paper bag on the off chance it will survive to the next day. However, I’m not really sure what I was supposed to do in that scenario (I wasn’t comfortable euthanizing it), so I would appreciate any feedback from more experienced herpers who go road cruising.
