Notes:
Most of the freshwater in the NWR has dried up due to extended drought. I found dozens of Alligators in the narrow, cattail choked, freshwater ditch. The bigger adults had larger areas of water staked out, but the juveniles and smaller individuals were relegated to areas of little more than damp mud.
The smaller individuals looked like they were starving as there was probably little or nothing to eat in the wet mud they were stuck in. I suspect any small individual that wandered into the deeper water areas was immediately eaten by the resident adults. Even the big adults I saw looked fairly skinny.
